Lateral flow system for routine Listeria screening
Hygiena offers the DuPont Lateral Flow System (LFS) tests designed to detect Listeria, Salmonella & E.coli on environmental surfaces and in a variety of ready-to-eat foods (such as deli meats, chicken nuggets, pepperoni, hot dogs, chicken salad and potato salad), dairy products (such as ice cream, soft cheese and milk), and fish products (such as cooked shrimp and smoked fish). The test can reliably detect one colony forming unit (cfu) bacteria in 25 grams of sample.
Using an unique combination of antibodies and highly engineered colloidal gold conjugate coated on the surface of a membrane, the Hygiena Lateral Flow System yields pathogen screening results much faster than conventional, culture-based testing. The prepared sample wicks up the test strip by capillary action. Within ten minutes, two red lines appear if the target pathogen is present. Otherwise, only the control line appears, which indicates that the test has worked correctly. The antibody-based method offers optimised media and sensitive results with no capital investment and minimal training.
The test is quick and simple to use and allows testing of three major assays: Listeria within 24 to 48 hours, Salmonella within 22 to 44 hours and E-coli within 8 to 18 hours. Associated enrichment media shortens enrichment times by facilitating maximum recovery of target cells, while inhibiting closely related competitive flora.
